Tiers of Positive Interventions and Supports

TIER : UNIVERSAL SUPPORTS 100% of students

Tier 1 of PBIS is the foundation of PBIS and includes all the student body. If your student moves to Tier 2 they will continue to receive Tier 1 supports also.

Tier 1 works by identifying 3-5 positively stated school-wide expectations for example: Be respectful, Be responsible, and Be safe. Every student is taught school expectations, rules, and procedures for every setting in the school like the cafeteria, bus stop, hallways, assemblies, restrooms, sporting events, buses, and emergency situations. The goal of Tier 1 is a safe, orderly, respectful school climate that improves student behavior and promotes academic success (Harlacher, 2018).

Each high school classroom will have their own set of expectations and routines that reflect schoolwide expectations with the goal of positive desirable behaviors from all students. Teachers and students may co-design routines and classroom agreements for improved student/ parent "buy-in". This is known as Classroom-wide PBIS (PBIS website).
