How do students move to Tier 3?
- Student progress is below the expected rate after 2-6 weeks in Tier 2
- 6 office discipline referrals
- More than 5 absences in a 30 day period
- Mental health concerns, anti-social behavior, serious concerns regarding family support
- Student's behavior poses a potential risk to self and others
- Student has an IEP

Tier 3 begins by confirming that Tier 1 & 2 were implemented with fidelity. To ensure that Tier 3 is implemented with fidelity teachers use a Fidelity Checklist. This checklist is developed by the student's support team (student, teacher, parent, counselor, administrator, community stakeholder...) and is completed by all the staff participating in the Tier 3 strategy. Goals are defined by the team and included in the student support plan. Data is collected daily for 6 weeks and monitored to determine effectiveness of the strategy. If the student meets the behavior goal 4 days a week for 6 weeks (80%), supports can be faded to a self management strategy or Tier 2 Check-in, Check-out system. This plan is individualized to the student's high level of social, emotional, and learning needs and may be ongoing based on the student's behavior.
